Suspended Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Humayun Kabir has once again vitiated the religious fabric of the state of West Bengal as he laid a foundation stone for a ‘Babri Masjid-style’ mosque in West Bengal’s Murshidabad. The controversial actions by the TMC MLA took place today, December 6, marking the 33rd anniversary of the Babri Masjid's demolition.

In response to the actions of the TMC MLA, senior BJP leader Amit Malviya slammed Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for using the MLA to polarise Muslims for political gains, and said that reports emerging from Beldanga were 'serious' and 'triggering'.

Malviya further claimed that supporters of MLA Kabir, allegedly with police assurance, were spotted transporting materials to build a structure he referred to as a "Babri Masjid." Furthermore, he highlighted Beldanga's high communal sensitivity, warning that any disturbance could block National Highway 12, the lifeline of Bengal, with "grave consequences for law and order and even national security."

"This so-called mosque project is not a religious effort but a political one, designed to inflame emotions and consolidate vote banks. Far from serving the community, it poses a serious threat to West Bengal's stability, risking heightened tensions and even fragmentation of the state's social fabric," the BJP leader added.

TMC Responds To Allegations

The TMC, on the other hand, has responded to the allegations of the BJP and clarified that the MLA remains suspended from the party and is currently working on the ‘payroll’ of the BJP, fostering a climate of religious animosity in the place.

"The people of Murshidabad are peace-loving and do not support his provocations," a senior TMC leader said, quoted PTI. He further rejected the ‘baseless’ claims made by the BJP and said that his party does not need any lessons on ‘religious harmony’.

MLA Kabir Addresses

Humayun Kabir, who had earlier announced his decision to resign as MLA and launch his own party, addressed a huge rally at Muradighi Maidan on Saturday, December 6 morning, after which he laid the foundation stone for the proposed Babri Masjid-style mosque.

Kabir, for his part, claimed that conspiracies were being hatched to disrupt the programme but asserted that "lakhs of people" would foil any such attempts. Security across the district has been tightened in view of the scheduled event.

Earlier, on Friday, December 5, the Calcutta High Court refused to intervene in the construction of the Babri Style Mosque at Beldanga, Murshidabad and clarified that the responsibility of maintenance of law and order would rest with the West Bengal government.
