Bengaluru School Holiday News: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has put Karnataka’s capital Bengaluru on a heavy rain alert for Tuesday, May 20. As per the weather forecast, similar conditions are likely to prevail in Bengaluru during the next five days. The heavy showers left three dead and multiple homes flooded in the IT hub. Underpasses and flyovers were closed leading to traffic snarls. As per IMD data, Bengaluru saw 105.5 mm of rainfall during the 24 hours ending 8.30 am on May 19, Monday. The last time the city experienced such heavy rainfall in May was on May 18, 2022.

Will Bengaluru Schools Be Closed?

According to the education department, the summer holidays will end on May 28, and the schools will resume on May 29 for the academic year 2025-26. As for now, there is no update on schools being closed. Students are advised to be in touch with their schools. If waterlogging persists and a red alert is issued, the holidays may be extended as a precautionary measure.

Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah To Hold Inspection

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar are scheduled to carry out a city-wide inspection on May 21.

“Conditions are favourable for further advance of southwest Monsoon over some more parts of south Arabian Sea, remaining parts of Maldives & Comorin area; some more parts of South Bay of Bengal; some more parts of central Bay of Bengal, and some more parts of northeast Bay of Bengal during next 2-3 days,” IMD, Bengaluru said in its bulletin.

“An upper air cyclonic circulation is likely to form over eastcentral Arabian Sea off the Karnataka coast around 21st May. Under its influence, a Low-pressure area is likely to form over the same region around 22nd May. Thereafter, it is likely to move northwards and intensify further,” IMD, Bengaluru added.

A 32-year-old woman, Shashikala D, working as a sweeper in a private company in Whitefield, died after the wall of the building collapsed. A 12-year-old boy and a 63-year-old man were electrocuted when they tried to pump out water in their house in South Bengaluru.
