Bengaluru Stampede: Among those dead in the Bengaluru stampede that broke out during Royal Challengers Bengaluru's IPL 2025 victory parade near Chinnaswamy Stadium, include three teenagers, with a 13-year-old being the youngest. A celebratory atmosphere turned grim after thousands of fans gathered outside Vidhana Soudha to cheer RCB, leading to overcrowding and chaos on Wednesday evening. The stampede left 11 people dead and 33 others injured. The incident occurred outside Gate No 7, where a large crowd had assembled in hopes of catching a glimpse of the players.
All victims of the tragic incident are under 40. The victims have been identified as Divyanshi (13), Doresha (32), Bhoomik (20), Sahana (25), Akshata (27), Manoj (33), Shravan (20), Devi (29), Shivalinga (17) and Chinmayi (19) and Prajwal (20), according to an NDTV report.
Many of the victims had come along with their friends to support and cheer for RCB. While some were from Bengaluru, others had travelled from other districts. According to a TOI report, the chaos began after rumours spread that free tickets were being distributed at this gate. This misinformation sparked panic among fans, ultimately leading to the deadly stampede.
Karnataka Deputy CM Issues Apology
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Wednesday issued an apology over the incident. He said there was a capacity of only 35000 people inside the stadium but 3 lakh people gathered outside.
"This should not have happened and we never expected such a big crowd...The stadium's capacity is 35,000, but more than 3 lakh people were there...Gates (of the stadium) have been broken...We apologise for this incident...We want to know the facts and give a clear message," he said.
He also rebuked the BJP for politicising the issue. "BJP is doing politics...We are very sorry for the incident. We will work out a better solution in the future.
