Baramati Learjet Crash: The Maharashtra Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has launched a probe into the tragic plane crash in Baramati that claimed the lives of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and four others on Wednesday. This investigation comes even as a separate inquiry is already underway by three officers from the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) to determine the exact cause of the crash.

The 16-year-old Learjet aircraft, operated by VSR Ventures Pvt Ltd, crashed while attempting a second landing approach at the airport, which is an uncontrolled airfield where traffic information is typically provided by instructors and pilots from local flying training organisations.

The other victims of the plane crash were Captain Sumit Kapoor, who had 15,000 hours of flying experience, co-pilot Captain Shambhavi Pathak, with 1,500 flying hours, Personal Security Officer (PSO) Vidip Jadhav, and flight attendant Pinky Mali.

On Thursday, the cockpit voice recorder and the flight data recorder of the Learjet aircraft was recovered, said the Ministry of Civil Aviation. "Following the unfortunate aircraft accident near Baramati, all requisite response and investigative mechanisms were activated immediately. Ensuring a thorough, transparent, and time-bound inquiry remains a top priority," the ministry had said in statement.

Meanwhile, a new video from the accident site gave rise to speculations around the cause of the fatal accident of a VT-SSK Learjet 45 business jet. The CCTV footage capturing the last moments of the aircraft has caught the attention of many. The footage shows that moments before the tragic crash, the aircraft's left wing dropped suddenly, turning to one side.

The footage has reportedly led experts to speculate the reason behind the accident, with three theories particularly being in focus. According to experts, an aerodynamic stall, hard banking too close to the ground, or an engine failure could have caused the crash.
