Two jail warders have been suspended after an undertrial prisoner escaped from Baruipur Correctional Home only to be caught at his own house on the same day. The accused is identified as Ashwar Ali Laskar and was arrested on Thursday.
As the jail authorities informed police, they launched an immediate search. Police began searching for Ashwer after receiving information from prison authorities. During the investigation, they received a tip-off that he was hiding in his home after escaping from prison.
Security Lapse
Following the prisoner's escape, questions were raised about the correctional facility's security. The prison administration launched an investigation to determine the circumstances under which Ashwar managed to elude guards and escape.
According to prison sources, an investigation is underway to determine whether any other individuals were involved in the incident. The administration is also trying to determine how the prisoner managed to escape the security cordon.
In a separate case, a rape convict serving a life sentence escaped Bareilly Central Jail after scaling the walls of the prison complex while guards were busy watching reels on social media. Eleven officials of the prison have now been suspended over the incident, the report said. Jailer Neeraj Kumar and Deputy Jailer Vandana Chowdhary were suspended by Director General (Prisons) PC Meena.

Strict departmental action was recommended against senior jail superintendent Avinash Gautam. Seven low-ranking jail staffers were also suspended following this major breach in the security of this jail in Meerut. “Action has been taken against the personnel for dereliction of duty," the DG was quoted as saying by ToI.
The convict, identified as 22-year-old Dinesh, was sent to work in a farm adjoining the prison along with 45 other inmates. Ten guards were assigned to keep a watch over them. An official of the jail stated that the guards were distracted while on duty, which led to this embarrassing incident for the UP police.
