West Bengal Assembly Elections: Congress on Sunday released its list of 284 candidates for the upcoming West Bengal Assembly Elections. The party has named Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, former state unit chief, as a candidate from Baharampur.

Among other key candidates in the fray are Pradip Prasad from Bhabanipur and former MP Mausam Noor from Malatipur. The list was released after Congress decided to go solo in the Bengal polls.

The state is set for a key battle between the ruling TMC and the opposition BJP. Both parties have opened fire against each other. Congress, on the other hand, is trying to make the contest trilateral by giving a tough contest.

Unlike past elections, when the voting used to take place in seven or eight phases, the Election Commission this time announced to conduct voting in only two phases.

The first phase of voting is scheduled to be held on April 23, while the second phase is set to be held on April 29. The counting of votes is scheduled for May 4.
