In a tragic incident, three people were injured on Sunday after a stampede-like situation developed at the Bardhaman Railway Station in West Bengal after a woman lost her balance and fell on the foot-over-bridge. The three injured were rushed to the Bardhaman Medical College for treatment.

Reportedly, three trains were stationed on platforms 4, 6, and 7 in the evening, and the passengers were boarding and deboarding, which caused a massive rush at the platforms and the FOBs.

According to a report by News18, the mishappening occurred when passengers from the Haldibari Express, which was stationed at platform 5, and a Howrah Main Line local train, stationed at platform 4, rushed to board and disembark at the same time, leading to a rush.

There was a huge rush of passengers at the railway station, which led to panic. The railway statement said that after the woman fell on the foot-over-bridge, her weight impacted the other passengers who were sitting at the FOB staircase.

In turn, they also fell down, causing injuries to three people. The Railway Police Force (RPF) and railway staff were swiftly deployed.

In a statement, Indian Railways said, "This evening, a woman travelling from the footoverbridge at Bardhaman station lost her balance and fell on the footoverbridge stairs. After the woman fell, her weight impacted other passengers sitting on the footoverbridge stairs, causing them to lose their balance and fall. RPF and railway staff deployed on the platform immediately attended to them. Railway doctors were also present. The three injured have been sent to Bardhaman Medical College for treatment."

Railways says 'no stampede'

Eastern Railways clarified that there was no stampede at the Bardhaman station and that passenger movement was normal at the time of the incident. It also confirmed that there were no deaths in the incident.

"It is clarified that there was no stampede, and the crowd was normal. Furthermore, there were no casualties. The three injured have been taken to the hospital for treatment", the Indian Railways stated.
