Bengal SIR: In a bid to speed up the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in West Bengal, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Manoj Kumar Agarwal has instructed all district election officials and the block-level officers (BLOs) to finish the ongoing process quickly and ensure that SIR enumeration forms are collected within this month. The process is accelerated, keeping in mind the high stakes Bengal Assembly Elections next year.
"The instruction to collect the enumeration forms by November-end came from the CEO. He has asked district officials to strictly follow the instruction," the official said.
Meanwhile, the ruling Trinamool Congress has strongly criticized the ongoing SIR process in West Bengal. TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee described the drive as “silent invisible rigging,” claiming it is being used to exclude voters rather than include them. TMC chief Mamata Banerjee also spearheaded a large-scale protest against the SIR process, pledging to oppose the revision “tooth and nail.”

West Bengal SIR Update
According to the CEO, more than 7.55 crore enumeration forms (approximately 98.5 per cent) have been distributed in the state so far. Despite the widespread work of the ECI, the CEO raised serious questions as to why the distribution of the forms not reached 100 per cent.
"District officials have been told that no lapse or excuse will be tolerated. They have been instructed to resolve any local issues immediately," the CEO said. The Election Commission has made it clear that the collection of forms must be carried out smoothly and peacefully, without any misconduct.
Earlier, a complaint was submitted by the BLOs regarding their safety while carrying out the process of SIR. Acting on that letter, Agarwal directed district election officers to look into the matter and ensure a prompt resolution.
