Bengal Weather Update: The residents of West Bengal are likely to continue to grapple with scorching temperatures as the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a heatwave alert for three districts in the state. "As temperatures soar above 40 degrees Celsius, daily life in parts of North Bengal is expected to be disrupted.
According to the IMD, the prevailing discomfort is likely to continue until Saturday, April 26, while rain and thunderstorms are expected to bring relief from Sunday onwards.
Heatwave Alert In Three Districts
A severe heatwave is affecting southern Bengal, with the IMD predicting continued heatwave-like conditions in West Bardhaman, Bankura, and Birbhum. Temperatures in Malda are already over 40°C and expected to rise, while Kolkata and surrounding areas are experiencing sweltering humidity that's causing discomfort throughout the day.

Bengal Weather This Week: Rain Expected In Some Districts
The weather pattern is likely to shift from Sunday, as forecast by the weather department, suggesting that light to moderate thunderstorms with rain may begin in some western districts of Bengal by Saturday evening, bringing much-needed respite. The change in weather is attributed to a low-pressure system and cyclonic circulation stretching from northern Bangladesh to Odisha, influencing conditions across Gangetic West Bengal.
Northern Districts Of Bengal To Continue To Face Severe Heat
Districts such as Malda, North and South Dinajpur in the northern part of West Bengal are experiencing similar sweltering conditions. However, the hilly regions around Darjeeling are likely to see rainfall with thunder starting Sunday, offering some relief from the heat.
Residents are advised to avoid prolonged exposure to heat as it can trigger heat-related illnesses, and stay hydrated.
