Bengal Rains: Significant rain poured in some areas of southern West Bengal, and the Met Office forecast that an active monsoon will continue to deliver further rain to several of the region's districts until Saturday. Nearly 200 mm of rain was recorded in a day until 8.30 AM on Friday in Bardhaman, Panagarh, and Sriniketan, the report stated.
The meteorological office said in its forecast that Purulia, Paschim Bardhaman, and Birbhum are anticipated to see heavy rain until Saturday morning.
With 46 mm of rain falling on Thursday, Calcutta is expected to get light to moderate rain.
According to data from the Met Office, Bardhaman and Sriniketan had the most rainfall, at 192 mm apiece, closely followed by Panagarh at 186 mm.
Asansol (148 mm), Canning (138 mm), Kalyani (135 mm), Suri (126 mm), and Kalaikunda (100 mm) are among the other locations in the area that had significant rainfall, according to the report.
In the sub-Himalayan districts of northern West Bengal, where Kalimpong received 62 mm of rain and Darjeeling received 33 mm in 24 hours ending at 8:30 AM on Friday, the Met office also predicted significant rain.
Flight Operations Suspended At Andal Airport
Meanwhile, waterlogging in and around the Kazi Nazrul Islam (KNI) airport in Andal in West Bengal's Paschim Bardhaman district prompted a temporary suspension of flight operations on Friday, according to officials. They claimed that about three flights, including one from Bengaluru and another from New Delhi, had to be cancelled for the day.
The area received about 192 mm of rain throughout the night. According to KNI airport officials, the passengers were notified of the issue well in advance to minimise any problems they may have had. According to them, the first flight was supposed to land at the airport around 12:50 PM.
An official stated that water surged onto the airport grounds, resulting in water logging in the operating area. According to him, there were also other areas flooded on the highway approach road leading to the airport.
