Bengal Weather Update: The Alipore Meteorological Centre on Thursday afternoon issued an alert for heavy rains, hailstorm and storms (Kalbaisakhi) that are expected to hit Bengal, including Kolkata, North 24 Parganas, Howrah and several other areas in the next 1-2 hours.

The state woke up to intense heat this morning. However, as the day passed, several areas witnessed heavy showers. The Met department issued a 'orange' alert for the 'Kalbaisakhi' storm that is likely to grip several parts of the state today.

The advisory issued at 4:35 PM today stated that the storm will blow at a speed of 60-70 kmph in the next 2 hours.

It will also be accompanied by heavy rain, hail and lightning. The storm is expected to hit Birbhum, East Midnapore, Hooghly and Howrah.

The weather department also issued another notice at 4:50 PM stating the massive storm.

According to the weather report, the Kalbaisakhi storm is approaching towards North 24 Parganas and West Midnapore.

The Alipore Meteorological Office has forecasted widespread thunderstorms across nearly all districts of the state by the end of the week. As a result, temperatures are expected to remain slightly below normal during this period.
