Bengal Weather: According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Kolkata, torrential rain will lash Kolkata and other districts over the next two days. Kolkata is expected to see rain with thunder and lightning on Monday. Heavy rain is expected to lash the city from Tuesday, June 17. Apart from this, during this time monsoon is also likely to enter South Bengal. Similar weather conditions are likely to prevail in Howrah, Hooghly, Jhargram, Purulia, Bankura, East Burdwan and Nadia. North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, East Midnapore, West Midnapore are also expected to witness heavy rain on Monday. Adverse conditions are likely in Burdwan, Birbhum, Murshidabad till Thursday. South 24 Parganas and East Midnapore may receive very heavy rain (7 to 20 centimetres) on Tuesday. There is a possibility of heavy rain in several districts of North Bengal this week as well. Heavy rain is likely in Jalpaiguri on Monday and Tuesday, Darjeeling on Wednesday, Alipurduar on Tuesday and Thursday, Uttar Dinajpur on Wednesday and Thursday, Dakshin Dinajpur on Tuesday and Wednesday and Malda from Tuesday to Thursday.

Squally weather with surface wind speed reaching 35-45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph is very likely over West Bengal-Odisha coast from June 17 to 18. Sea condition is very likely to be rough. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea along and off the West Bengal-Odisha coast during this time.

“In view of above and strong moisture incursion from Bay of Bengal, enhanced rainfall activity with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely in some districts of West Bengal,” IMD, Kolkata, stated in its bulletin.

South Bengal Weather Forecast

June 16: Thunderstorm with gusty wind (speed reaching 30-40 kmph), lightning and light to moderate rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over all the districts with Heavy Rainfall (7-11 cm) likely to occur at one or two places over North & South 24 Parganas, East & West Midnapore districts of South Bengal.

June 17: Heavy to Very Heavy rainfall (07-20 cm) likely to occur at one or two places over South 24 Parganas and East Midnapore districts of South Bengal. Heavy Rainfall (7-11 cm) likely to occur at one or two places over the rest districts of South Bengal. Thunderstorms with gusty wind (speed reaching 30-40 kmph), lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over all the districts of South Bengal.

June 18: Thunderstorm with gusty wind (speed reaching 30-40 kmph), lightning with Heavy Rainfall (7-11 cm) likely to occur at one or two places over all the districts of South Bengal.

June 19: Thunderstorm with gusty wind (speed reaching 30-40 kmph), lightning with Heavy Rainfall (7-11 cm) likely to occur at one or two places over Birbhum, Murshidabad and West Burdwan districts of South Bengal.

June 20: Heavy Rainfall (7-11 cm) likely to occur at one or two places over Birbhum and Murshidabad districts of South Bengal.

June 21: Heavy Rainfall (7-11 cm) likely to occur at one or two places over South 24 Parganas and East Midnapore districts of South Bengal.

June 16: Heavy Rainfall (7-11 cm) likely to occur at one or two places over Jalpaiguri district of North Bengal.

June 17: Heavy Rainfall (7-11 cm) likely to occur at one or two places over Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, South Dinajpur and Malda districts of North Bengal.

June 18: Heavy Rainfall (7-11 cm) likely to occur at one or two places over Darjeeling, North & South Dinajpur and Malda districts of North Bengal.

June 19: Heavy Rainfall (7-11 cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over Alipurduar, North Dinajpur and Malda districts of North Bengal.
