Bengal Weather: Relief for Kolkata could finally be in sight after days of sweltering heat and a heavy, humid sky. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reports that thunderclouds are approaching and that heavy rain is expected to fall during the next several days in the city and its surrounding areas.
A yellow notice for thunderstorms and showers has been issued by IMD.
All districts of south Bengal, including Kolkata, are expected to see light to moderate rain, thunder, and lightning, as well as gusty gusts that can reach 30 to 50 km/h today and tomorrow, according to the IMD.
This week's wettest days are expected to be Tuesday and Wednesday. With areas like South 24 Parganas and East Midnapore under warning for extremely heavy rain, the metropolis may see periods of severe rainfall.
Waterlogging at some areas are expected. Therefore, commuters are asked to be prepared and check their routes.
Rainfall is expected to reach western districts including Birbhum, West Burdwan, and Murshidabad starting on Thursday. The rain will alter its emphasis once more on Friday and Saturday, with East Midnapore and South 24 Parganas once again being monitored for another round of intense rain.
Apart from Kolkata, all other districts in south Bengal are expected to experience thunderstorms, rain, and strong winds.
Light to moderate rain, lightning, and wind speeds of 40 to 50 km/h will keep locals on their toes.
