Bengal Weather: India Meteorological Department (IMD) has stated that under the influence of the upper air cyclonic circulation over southwest Bangladesh and Gangetic West Bengal, a low pressure area has formed over Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining West Bengal and Bangladesh coasts. The associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 7.6 km above mean sea level. It is likely to move slowly west-northwestwards across North Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal and Jharkhand. As a result, light to moderate rainfall at most places with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely in some districts of West Bengal. Rain accompanied by thunder and gusty winds are likley to hit Kolkata on Monday.
Rain has been lashing Kolkata since Monday morning. According to the weather body, scattered light to moderate rains will continue in South Bengal districts throughout the week.
A heavy rain warning has also been issued in North Bengal. Heavy rains are likely to continue in Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, Kalimpong, Cooch Behar for the next few days.

South Bengal Weather Alert
June 30: Light to moderate rain/thundershower very likely to occur at most places over all the districts of South Bengal with heavy rainfall (7-11 cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over East Midnapore, West Midnapore, West Burdwan, Jhargram, Purulia and Bankura districts of South Bengal. Thunderstorms with gusty wind (speed reaching 30-40 kmph) and lightning are likely to occur at one or two places over all the districts of South Bengal.
July 1: Light to moderate rain/thundershower very likely to occur at most places over all the districts of South Bengal with heavy rainfall (7-11 cm) likely to occur at one or two places over South 24 Parganas, Purulia and West Burdwan districts of South Bengal.
July 2: Light to moderate rain/thundershower very likely to occur at many places over all the districts of South Bengal.
July 3: Light to moderate rain/thundershower very likely to occur at many places over all the districts of South Bengal with thunderstorm with lightning likely to occur at one or two places over East Midnapore, West Midnapore, North 24 Parganas and South 24 Parganas districts of South Bengal.
