Bengal Weather Update: The Alipore Meteorological Department has forecast significant weather changes for South Bengal, as a low-pressure area is likely to form over the Bay of Bengal early next week. The system is expected to develop near the central and northern parts of the Bay on Tuesday, May 27, bringing with it heavy rainfall and thunderstorms across several districts.

Heavy Rain Alert For Six Districts

Beginning Wednesday, heavy rainfall (7–11 cm) is expected in Hooghly, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, East Midnapore, West Midnapore, and Jhargram. Scattered rain with thunderstorms is also forecasted for the remaining districts of South Bengal.

Thunderstorms And Gusty Winds In Kolkata

Kolkata and surrounding areas may experience thunderstorms from Saturday, with a warning for scattered showers and gusty winds between 30 and 40 kmph in effect through Sunday. In districts like Medinipur, Jhargram, Purulia, Bankura, Burdwan, and Birbhum, wind speeds could reach 40–50 kmph.

Despite the rain, no major change in temperature is expected in South Bengal over the next five days. However, Kolkata recorded a noticeable dip in temperature, with a minimum of 25.8°C on Saturday—1.1°C below normal—and a maximum of 32.4°C on Friday, 3°C below normal.

Rain Forecast For North Bengal

In North Bengal, all districts, including Darjeeling and Kalimpong, are also likely to see scattered rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds up to 30–40 kmph till Monday. Like South Bengal, temperatures are expected to remain steady in this region.

The developing weather system is being closely monitored, and residents are advised to stay updated with official forecasts and take necessary precautions.
