Bengal Weather Update: The Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rain in South Bengal and very to very heavy rain in North Bengal districts over the next few days. Kolkata has been witnessing light to moderate rain activity since Wednesday morning. Showers are expected to cause traffic snarls in certain areas.
“The monsoon trough at mean sea level now passes through Amritsar, Patiala, Muzaffarnagar, Kheri, Valmiki Nagar and thence east-northeastwards to the Arunachal Pradesh close to foot hills of Himalayas. An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over north Bangladesh and neighborhoods between 4.5 and 7.6 km above mean sea level. Under the presence of above meteorological conditions, widespread light to moderate rainfall with isolated heavy rainfall activity is very likely over some districts of West Bengal,” IMD said in its bulletin.
South Bengal Weather
August 6: Heavy rainfall (07-11 cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over North and South 24 Parganas, Howrah and Nadia districts. Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty wind (speed 30-40kmph) are very likely to occur at one or two places over all the districts of South Bengal.
August 7: Heavy rainfall (07-11 cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over Birbhum, Murshidabad, East and West Bardhaman, Bankura, West Midnapore and South 24 Parganas districts. Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty wind (speed 30-40kmph) are very likely to occur at one or two places over all the districts of South Bengal.
North Bengal Weather
August 6: Heavy rainfall (07-11 cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar and Cooch Behar districts of North Bengal. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty wind (speed 30-40kmph) are very likely to occur at one or two places over Malda, North and South Dinajpur districts of North Bengal.
August 7: Heavy to very heavy rainfall (07-20 cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong and Alipurduar districts. Heavy rainfall (07-11 cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over Cooch Behar and Malda districts of North Bengal.
