Bengal Weather Update: According to the Alipore Meteorological Department, under the influence of the fresh low pressure system, widespread rain is likely to continue over the next few days in Bengal. The weather body has issued heavy to very heavy rain alerts for multiple South and North Bengal districts. Thunderstorms with gusty winds are expected in the coastal belt and northern districts. Kolkata saw a minimum temperature of 26.1 degrees Celsius on Monday.

The system is associated with a cyclonic circulation extending up to 7.6 km above sea level over the North Bay of Bengal and adjacent Odisha and West Bengal coasts, as per the weather body.

South Bengal Weather

Scattered rain is currently occurring in almost all South Bengal Districts. Kolkata has been witnessing light to moderate rain since Tuesday morning. The IMD has forecast thunderstorms and sporadic rain in Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, and North 24-Parganas on Tuesday. Heavy rainfall (7 to 11 cm) is likely in South 24 Parganas, East Midnapore, Jhargram, Purulia, Bankura, and East Burdwan.

North Bengal Weather

On Tuesday, heavy downpour is likely in East and West Burdwan, Birbhum, Murshidabad, and Nadia. Rain activity shall continue in the mentioned districts till Wednesday. As per the weather body, heavy rain alert has been issued for Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri on Tuesday. Heavy rainfall is also expected in North Dinajpur and Malda. The rain is expected to subside by midweek however during the weekend showers may hit darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, and Alipurduar.
