At least 41 flights have been delayed at Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport (BLR Airport) on Thursday morning since 5:30 am due to dense fog reducing visibility. According to officials, persistent fog and low clouds created challenging conditions for aircraft movement, leading to disruptions through the early hours.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the city witnessed light rainfall in the morning but no severe weather warnings were issued. The sky had remained partly cloudy on Wednesday, but Thursday’s dense fog worsened visibility around the airport precincts. The weather around BLR Airport is expected to remain slightly cloudy throughout the day, with temperatures ranging from 18 to 28 Degree Celsius .

Bengaluru Airport Warnings 

1. At 10 am, meteorological readings at the airport showed a temperature of 20°C, relative humidity of 73 percent, and visibility restricted to 1,500 meters.

2. Atmospheric pressure was recorded at 1020 hPa, with winds blowing at 14 knots from the East/Northeast.

3. Misty conditions prevailed, with scattered clouds observed at 800 ft and 1200 ft, complicating operations for pilots and air traffic controllers.

4. Airport authorities expect the situation to gradually improve through the day, with clearer conditions likely by the afternoon.

5. Two days earlier, another major disruption affected international traffic due to ash from the Ethiopian volcanic eruption drifting into Indian airspace.

6. On Tuesday, seven international flights scheduled between 1 am and 6 pm were cancelled.

7. An additional 12 international flights were delayed as airlines adjusted operations based on safety assessments related to volcanic ash.

8. Both arrival and departure schedules were impacted as carriers waited for clearer airspace conditions.

 

Earlier, the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport had issued a passenger advisory announcing temporary airspace restrictions from November 27 to December 3 owing to the Navy's Operational Demonstration 2025, further impacting regional flight connectivity. With fog conditions expected to lift gradually, Bengaluru Airport officials are working to normalise operations and reduce delays.
