Tamil Nadu Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall alert for several districts, including the capital city, Chennai. Over the next 48 hours, the Senyar Cyclone is expected to continue its north-northwestward trajectory, approaching the coasts of North Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and southern Andhra Pradesh.

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has forecast heavy rains across south Tamil Nadu and the delta districts, with intense rainfall likely to extend to north Tamil Nadu towards the weekend. In addition, widespread heavy rainfall is expected in several states, including the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, and coastal Andhra Pradesh.

Waterlogging In Tamil Nadu Districts 

Heavy rainfall over Monday and Tuesday has led to significant waterlogging across several districts in Tamil Nadu. Areas such as Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram, and Nagapattinam have been particularly affected, with flooding disrupting normal life.

Senyar Cyclone 

Cyclonic Storm Senyar, located over the coastal areas of northeast Indonesia and the adjoining Strait of Malacca, has been moving southeast at around 10 kmph over the past six hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported on Thursday. As of 11.30 pm on November 26, the system was centred near latitude 4.0°N and longitude 98.5°E — about 200 km southeast of Kuta Makmur in Indonesia, 250 km southwest of George Town in Malaysia, 710 km southeast of Nancowry, and 850 km southeast of Car Nicobar in the Nicobar Islands.

Chennai Weather Forecast 

Chennai and its neighbouring districts are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall over the weekend. Residents in the capital region have been advised to prepare for a wet Saturday and Sunday.

For Saturday, November 29, the IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rain in parts of Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, and Ranipet. The warning extends into Sunday, November 30, with similar conditions expected in Tiruvallur, Chennai, Chengalpattu, and Kanchipuram.

Tamil Nadu Forecast Ahead Of Senyar Cyclone

A low-pressure area over the southwest Bay of Bengal has led the India Meteorological Department to issue Cyclone Warning Signal No 1 for seven ports, Chennai, Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, Ennore, Kattupalli, Puducherry, and Karaikal. This signal indicates a distant weather disturbance, with wind speeds over the sea potentially reaching up to 60 km/h. Fishermen have been advised to avoid venturing into the sea, while coastal residents are urged to remain vigilant as conditions may turn squally.

Tamil Nadu Weather Forecast 

For November 28, a heavy to very heavy rainfall alert has been issued for Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, and Nagapattinam districts. Additionally, a heavy rain warning is in place for Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, Pudukkottai, Mayiladuthurai, Cuddalore, and Ariyalur.

On November 29 (Saturday), the most intense rainfall is expected to shift toward northern Tamil Nadu. Very heavy rain is forecast for Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Cuddalore, Villupuram, and Chengalpattu. Heavy to very heavy rain is also likely in Tiruvallur, Chennai, Kanchipuram, Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai, Kallakurichi, Ariyalur, Perambalur, and Thanjavur.
