Bengaluru Auto Fare Hike: Following the recent fare hikes in the Metro Rail and state-run bus services, autorickshaw fare in Bengaluru are also expected to increase. In response to requests from local autorickshaw drivers' association, the Bengaluru City Districts Regional Transport Authority has scheduled a meeting for today to discuss potential fare revisions.
Currently, the minimum fare for autorickshaws is set at Rs 30, with an additional charge of Rs 15 for every kilometre beyond the initial two kilometres. However, drivers are proposing to raise the minimum fare to Rs 50, along with a new rate of Rs 25 per kilometre for distances exceeding two kilometres.

In contrast, the transport department is advocating for a more moderate increase, suggesting a minimum fare of Rs 40 and a per-kilometre charge of Rs 20.
Once new autorickshaw fares are implemented, ride-hailing services may also need to adjust their pricing, according to Tanveer Pasha, president of the Swabhimani Chalakara Sanghatanegala Okkoota (SCSO).
Bengaluru Autorickshaw Last Fare Hike
The last fare revision for autorickshaws took place in November 2021, when the base fare was set at Rs 30 for the first 1.9 kilometres and Rs 15 for each additional kilometre. Driver unions argue that these rates no longer align with the rising cost of living and fuel prices.
The final decision regarding the fare increase will be made by the District Transport Authority (DTA), chaired by Bengaluru Urban Deputy Commissioner Jagadeesha G. The DTA includes 10 Regional Transport Officers (RTOs), Deputy Commissioners of Police (Traffic), and representatives from driver unions.
