Bengaluru PG News: On Thursday, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) closed 21 paying guest (PG) facilities due to serious health and safety violations. This decisive action is part of an ongoing effort to enhance the safety and well-being of residents living in PG accommodations across the city.
A report from the Indian Express revealed that despite receiving multiple warnings, these 21 PGs failed to implement necessary improvements. Among those shut down, one PG was authorised, while the other twenty were operating without proper approval. The BBMP cited Sections 305 and 308 of the BBMP Act, 2020, mandating the immediate closure of these establishments.

Bengaluru PG Guidelines
The BBMP has laid out specific guidelines for PG operators, including the installation of CCTV cameras, maintaining adequate living space for residents, providing clean bathrooms and ensuring fire safety compliance. Emergency contact numbers must also be displayed for residents’ safety.
Suralkar Vikas Kishor, Special Commissioner (Health) of the BBMP stated that many PG operators have continuously disregarded notices issued by the BBMP. Many of these facilities were operating illegally without the required business licences.
