Bengaluru Traffic News: In yet another criticism towards Bengaluru traffic, Biocon chief Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw slammed the city’s traffic as she compared it with other cities.
The Silicon Valley of India, Bengaluru, is infamous for its persistent traffic woes. Long commutes and constant delays have become so normal that many now joke about them. ‘You can reach Dubai earlier than you reach your home in Bengaluru from the airport’ posts are often seen doing rounds on social media.
Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw has shared some eye-opening numbers about how the road-vehicle ratio is worsening in India’s major cities, leaving them crowded.
According to the statistics shared by Mazumdar-Shaw, Delhi leads with the highest road network, with 32,000 km of roads supporting 1.54 crore vehicles.

Sharing a post with visualisation of road length of cities and number of vehicles on the road of respective cities, Mazumdar wrote, ‘We are woefully short of roads’.
The green city of India is frequently criticised for its never-ending traffic snarls. The city has 12,878 km of roads and 1.20 crore vehicles, making it one of the most congested cities in terms of vehicle traffic on roads.
On the other hand, the financial capital, Mumbai, has 2,000 km of roads and 42 lakh vehicles, while Kolkata has 1,850 km of roads for 25 lakh vehicles.
Bengaluru Traffic: Social Media Reacts To Mazumdar’s Post
Reacting to Mazumdar’s post, one user wrote, “They need to consider roaded AREA. Not just LENGTH alone. Blore has a zillion narrow lanes. So if you look at length alone, it appears a lot. But when you consider surface AREA of all the roads, it’ll then correctly reflect as being much more inadequate for the number of vehicles."

Another person commented, “Length is not the only factor. Width too matters. Length x Width per car is likely to be least of all the mentioned cities for Bengaluru."
