An early man was shot dead by two attackers, who were subsequently lynched by a violent mob in Dommanchak village near Patna on Monday evening. The incident comes just days after Chief Minister Nitish Kumar returned to power, occurring while the man was stepping outside his house.
According to the NDTV report, Patna’s East Superintendent of Police, Parichay Kumar, reported that between 4:30 and 5 pm, two assailants on a motorcycle reached the residence of 80-year-old Asharfi Rai in Dommanchak village, under Gopalpur police jurisdiction, and fired at him without warning.

They lynched the attackers. The attackers lost their lives on the spot," said the police officer, according to the NDTV report.
The elderly victim, Asharfi Rai, was taken to Patna Medical College and Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Authorities confirmed that a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team has been sent to the site to gather evidence.
"The FSL team has recovered dead cartridges from the first crime spot. We have also recovered bricks, stones, and batons from the second crime spot. Police are also examining CCTV footage from nearby areas," officer Kumar added.
When asked whether a land dispute triggered the killing, the officer stated that the investigation is ongoing and it is "too early" to draw conclusions. The identities of the attackers remain unknown, and Patna Police are recording statements from the victim’s family to determine the exact motive behind the murder.
