Bengaluru News: A major accident was averted in Bengaluru on Monday morning after a BMTC bus caught fire near the HAL bus stop. Around 75 passengers were on board when the incident took place, but all were rescued in time due to the quick response of the bus crew.
The bus, which was operating on the KBS–Kadugodi route, caught fire at around 5.10 AM. Panic spread among passengers as smoke rose from the engine, but driver Jayachandra and conductor Chowdappa acted immediately and evacuated everyone before the flames spread further.

Officials later confirmed that the fire started in the engine compartment. Within minutes, the blaze engulfed the entire bus, leaving it completely gutted. However, no injuries were reported. Firefighters reached the spot soon after and managed to douse the flames.
BMTC’s Chief Mechanical Engineer, along with a technical team, inspected the site. According to a BMTC official, the bus was a BS-VI model, three to four years old. He added that the crew’s timely action ensured the safe evacuation of all passengers.

The official also noted that BMTC had inducted 860 BS-VI buses into its fleet over the past few years. While the incident ended without casualties, it has raised concerns over maintenance and safety standards in the city’s public transport system.
Passengers and locals have called for stricter checks on buses to prevent such accidents in future. BMTC authorities have said that further investigations will be carried out to determine the exact cause of the fire.
