Bengaluru Drug Bust: In a major success in the crackdown on the drug menace, the Bengaluru Police has arrested a 40-year-old man, belonging to an African nation, for peddling synthetic drugs to students and IT professionals in the city. The police have also seized MDMA worth Rs 4 crore from him.

The arrested African national has been identified as Daniel Arinze Okwosha. The police said that he belongs to an African country but didn't mention the specific name.

According to the information, the accused arrived in Bengaluru on a business visa in December 2023. He was staying in the tech city in a rented flat with his friend in Soladevanahalli, police said.

The police said that they had got a tip-off from an informant, after which they swung into action. Accordingly, the police raided Okwosha's house. 

While Okwosha was arrested, his friend, who is allegedly also involved in the drug peddling, managed to escape from the scene, a senior police official said.

During the investigation, police got to know that the accused was allegedly sourcing drugs from their counterparts in several other states and local contacts around Bengaluru. Moreover, they targeted college students and IT professionals for selling the drugs, he said.

Speaking about the recovery, the police official said that they have seized 1.48 kg of white MDMA crystals and 1.1 kg of brown MDMA crystals from him, which is estimated to be worth Rs 4 crore.

Earlier this month, another man belonging to an African nation was arrested by the Chennai Police from Delhi. Chennai Police said that the arrested person, named Abou, belonged to Cote d'Ivoire.

Chennai Police recovered 15 grams of cocaine, 3 grams of methamphetamine, 7 grams of heroin, and Rs 50,000 in cash from their possession. The police had said that after due legal process in the national capital, the two would be brought to Chennai for remand.
