Bengaluru News: The Kamaraj Road stretch between MG Road and Cubbon Road was fully reopened for vehicular movement on Friday after a gap of six years. The reopening of Kamaraj Road is likely to boost the regional connectivity and is set to provide convenience to the commuters by cutting the travel time and reducing the travel time. The road was closed for vehicular movement due to the construction of the MG Road underground metro station on the much-hyped Pink Line. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has stated that the Pink Line will connect the key regions of the city, leading to relief for thousands of passengers.
While one side of the road towards Cubbon Road was opened for the commuters in June 2024, the opening of the other stretch has fully opened the road. Earlier in 2025, the BMRCL had stated that over 80 trees were removed from either side of the road to build the metro station. The authority stated that while the reconstructed road's length is 214 meters, its width is 11 meters. It further asserted that the reopening of the road will improve the traffic flow, providing relief to the travellers.
Apart from this, the Bengaluru traffic police stated that the reopening of the road will boost the connectivity between the key commercial hubs. It further advised the travellers to follow the guidelines and plan their travel accordingly to avoid inconveniences.
Earlier last week, the BMRCL stated that the metro network will be significantly expanded in the upcoming two years. The officials stated that the metro network will be expanded from 96 kilometers to 175 kilometers by the end of 2027. The BMRCL stated that while 41 kilometers of new metro lines is likely to become operational by the end of 2026, another 38 kilometers will be ready by December 2027.
