Bengaluru Auto Harassment: A Bengaluru autorickshaw driver was caught on video verbally abusing a woman passenger after she cancelled her ride booked through an aggregator app. The footage, which quickly went viral on social media, shows the driver angrily confronting the woman for choosing another autorickshaw.
In the video, the driver can be heard shouting, “How can you cancel my ride by mistake? Does your father pay for the gas? How long did I wait here while you just chose to sit in another auto?” When the woman threatened to report him to the police, he defiantly replied, “Come, let us go to the police. Do you think you can scare me?” He also used offensive language and snatched her phone while she was recording the incident.

Despite attempts from other auto drivers to intervene, the situation escalated into a public altercation. The woman alleged that the driver slapped her, asking in the video, "Why did you slap me?" The driver continued to complain in Kannada about waiting for five minutes and questioned whether her father would cover his fuel costs. The woman explained that she had to cancel the ride due to a change in her plans.

The incident sparked outrage on social media, with many users calling for strict action against the driver for his aggressive and abusive behaviour. One user noted, “Aggregators have a cancellation policy that deducts a small fee. There is absolutely no justification for this behaviour towards a woman. He should face severe consequences for his actions.”
Uber also responded to the incident, saying, “We’re sorry to hear about the trouble. Completing trip requests is encouraged among all drivers. Please share your Uber registered email ID and phone number via Direct Message for us to follow up promptly.”
