A college student at Krupanidhi Group of Institutions in Bengaluru was allegedly attacked by a group of seniors reportedly for refusing to shave his beard. The incident occurred on Friday when the victim, a second-year BBA student from Kerala, was travelling near St Stephen's Marthoma Church in the Bellandur area. The victim’s father has filed a police complaint against the accused students and an investigation is underway.

According to the complaint, around ten students, including the main accused, Xavier, Vishnu, and Sarath, who are also from the same college, were involved in the attack, which took place between 8:30 pm and 9:00 pm on August 30.

The 21-year-old recounted that the trouble began in April when the accused pressured him to shave off his beard. Despite ignoring their demands, he was repeatedly targeted and ragged by the trio. The harassment escalated when they allegedly searched for him at his residence in Hado Siddapura  when he was away in his native place, TOI reported.

On the evening of the attack, one of the victim's seniors called him to meet near the church. Accompanied by his roommate, the victim found himself confronted by the group of ten. The seniors reportedly forced him to shave on the spot and when he refused, they physically assaulted him, leaving him with severe injuries. The victim was rushed to the hospital, where he underwent treatment,  the report said.

The Bellandur police have registered a case under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including those related to causing hurt, unlawful assembly and criminal intimidation. A senior officer confirmed that notices have been served to the accused students, requiring them to appear before the investigating officer for further probe.
