Bengaluru News: In a move to boost Bengaluru's nightlife, Karnataka government has announced a significant change to the city's operating hours. Effective immediately, all business establishments, including restaurants and bars, will be allowed to remain open until 1 am within the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) limits.
This decision, outlined in an order issued by the Urban Development Department on July 29, fulfils a promise made by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in his 2024-2025 budget speech. In his speech, Karnataka Chief Minister had pledged to extend the operating hours for shops and establishments in Bengaluru.

Under the new guidelines, clubs, hotels, bars and restaurants in the city can serve food and liquor until 1 am daily. This includes establishments holding CL-4 (club licenses), CL-6 (A) (star hotel licenses), CL-7 (hotel and boarding house licenses) and CL-7D licenses. Refreshment rooms (bars) with CL-9 licenses can also operate from 10 am to 1 am.
The Hindu report quoted, Bruhath Bangalore Hotels Association President PC Rao as saying, “The government has given permission to all shops and establishments to stay open till 1 a.m., and we welcome this move. The public will greatly benefit from this and it will also generate more employment"
"So far, only bars and restaurants within the limits of the commissioner had permission to be open till 1:00 am. Now, all commercial establishments across the BBMP limits will remain open till 1:00 am" he added.
In 2016, hotels, restaurants, and markets were allowed to remain open to boost nighttime trade in the city. However, public opposition led to a mandate requiring all commercial establishments to close by 11 pm.
