In a significant move following the Bengaluru Central Jail scandal, Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara on Monday announced the formation of a high-level committee to probe the lapses at the Bengaluru Central Prison. The panel will be headed by Additional Director-General of Police (Law and Order) R. Hitendra, with IGP Sandeep Patil and SPs Amaranath Reddy and C.B. Rishyanth as members.

The decision comes after several videos surfaced allegedly showing jailers enjoying VIP treatment, including access to smartphones, private televisions, and even hosting a drinks party inside their barracks, where prisoners were seen dancing, eating snacks, and celebrating.

In immediate administrative action, the minister announced the transfer of Chief Superintendent K Suresh, and the suspension of Superintendent Imamsab Myageri and Assistant Superintendent Ashok Bhajantri.

He further stated that going forward, an IPS officer will directly oversee the Parappana Agrahara Central Jail, and a central command centre will be established in Bengaluru to monitor all jail CCTV feeds in real time.

Briefing reporters, Parameshwara said, "It has been decided that from now on an IPS officer will be in charge of Parappana Agrahara Jail (Bengaluru)."

Earlier in the day, senior BJP leaders including Leader of Opposition R. Ashoka and State BJP President B.Y. Vijayendra was detained by police while protesting against the alleged VIP privileges being extended to certain inmates in state prisons.

In another clip, four small bottles of alcohol were seen neatly arranged as some inmates danced to the sound of utensils being banged by others. However, The Daily Jagran has not independently verified the authenticity of the video.
