Bengaluru News: Commuters in Bengaluru will have to wait longer for the new 11-kilometre arterial road connecting Magadi Road to the Bengaluru–Mysuru access-controlled highway, as the project has hit another delay. The road, developed by the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA), is now likely to open only by early 2026, instead of the earlier deadline of November 2025.
Railway Underpass Work Stalled Near Challaghatta
According to a Times of India report, the project is in its final stage but progress has slowed due to persistent rain and pending approvals. The major obstacle is the railway underpass near Challaghatta, which has been stalled for the past two months because of unfavourable weather and pending clearance from the South Western Railway (SWR).

BDA Awaits South Western Railway Clearance
A senior BDA engineer stated that the authority is using box-push technology for constructing the underpass. “The precast segments have been ready for several weeks, but continuous rainfall and the wait for railway safety permissions have delayed work. Once the SWR grants clearance, we will begin the girder launch and push-box installation,” the official said.

Rs 500-Crore Six-Lane Road To Connect Kambipura, Sulikere and Kannalli
The underpass, designed to be 14 metres wide, will support six lanes of traffic and improve connectivity between western parts of the city. The Rs 500-crore project will pass through rapidly developing areas such as Kambipura, Challaghatta, Kommaghatta, Sulikere and Kannalli and will include bridges, culverts and rotary junctions.
For now, the BDA plans to connect the new stretch to the Mysuru highway through a T-junction. However, future plans include integrating the corridor with the Peripheral Ring Road (PRR-2) and NHAI’s network, creating a larger signal-free corridor with cloverleaf interchanges and underpasses for smoother traffic movement between Magadi Road, Kengeri and Mysuru Road.
