Bengaluru News: A 35-year-old man was arrested on Saturday for allegedly killing his two nephews and seriously injuring a third in Kammasandra, on the outskirts of Bengaluru. The attack took place while the children’s parents were away at work.

Originally from Yadgir district, Kasim had been living with them for the past five years. He was reportedly unemployed and working in construction occasionally.

According to the police, the incident occurred on Saturday afternoon when the children were alone at home with their grandmother. While she stepped out to buy groceries, Kasim allegedly used an iron rod to hit the children on their heads. When the grandmother returned, she found the house locked from inside. Her cries for help alerted neighbours who broke in, but Kasim had already fled.

The deceased boys have been identified as Mohammed Ishaq, aged 9 and Mohammed Junaid, aged 7. Their younger brother, Mohammed Rohan, aged 5, sustained critical injuries and is undergoing treatment at NIMHANS.

Neighbours informed the police, who launched a search and arrested Kasim shortly after. During questioning, officers noted that Kasim appeared mentally disturbed and gave unclear answers about his actions. A senior officer said that Kasim claimed he was not properly cared for by his brother’s family. His mental state is currently being assessed.

Police also revealed that this was not the first time Kasim had left home following an argument with Chand. He was previously traced by the family to Tamil Nadu and brought back. Officers added that Kasim frequently quarrelled with his brother over financial matters.

A case of murder and attempted murder has been registered. Joint Commissioner of Police (East) Ramesh Bhanoth visited the location and is overseeing the investigation.

Further inquiries are underway.
