Bengaluru: Meghana Foods, a well-known biryani chain in the city, faced strong criticism after a poster from one of its outlets went viral on social media. The notice, written in capital letters, told Swiggy and Zomato delivery workers not to use the lift and directed them to take the stairs instead. Many users called the instruction discriminatory and insensitive towards delivery personnel, who often work long hours under time pressure.

The brand later issued a public apology on Instagram, acknowledging that the decision and the messaging were inappropriate.

Restaurant Calls Poster A Mistake

In its statement, Meghana Foods said the intention was to reduce crowding in lifts for dine-in customers. However, the chain admitted the notice was inconsiderate and should not have been put up.

“Our delivery partners work incredibly hard and deserve respect, dignity, and care. The poster is down, and the mistake has been addressed internally,” the restaurant said.

The company added that delivering agents form an essential part of its service and apologised directly to them, saying it hoped to regain their trust.

Users Question Motive Behind Apology

Several Instagram users asked whether delivery workers were now allowed to use the lift, to which the restaurant confirmed “yes”. Some commenters, however, accused the chain of responding only because the issue went public.
One user said, “If this had not been posted online, your team would not have cared.” Meghana Foods replied that social media criticism helped them recognise their mistake.

Mixed Reactions Online

While some users appreciated the apology and corrective action, others reminded the brand that delivery agents also represent customers. A few pointed out that similar restrictions exist in residential complexes, calling it a wider issue of double standards.

Meghana Foods runs several outlets across Bengaluru.
