Bengaluru Metro Orange Line: Bengaluru’s much-awaited Metro Phase 3 expansion, popularly known as the Orange Line, is expected to face further delays. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has revised the plan and has pushed the deadline to May 2031, at least a year ahead of the initial planned deadline.
This extension comes after the BMRCL announced to include double-decker flyovers along certain segments of the route, The Hindu reported.
Bengaluru Metro Phase 3 (Orange Line): Key Updates
- Design Update: The BMRCL has announced a major upgrade to the Phase 3 plans to include double-decker flyovers on certain stretches, aiming to prevent congestion and reduce the persistent traffic woes of commuters.

- Construction Delay: In view of the design upgrade, the BMRCL has pushed the design to May 2031, at least a year ahead of the original timeline.
- Updated Timeline: The work is likely to begin by December 2025 or early 2026, with the tender expected to be awarded by November. Construction will take around five and a half years to complete.
- Project Launch: Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially laid the foundation stone for the new corridors of the Bengaluru Metro Phase 3 in August 2025.
- Cost and Other Details: Spanning 44.65 km, the Bengaluru Metro Phase 3 will comprise 31 elevated stations across two corridors, JP Nagar 4th Phase to Kempapura (32.15 km) and Hosahalli to Kadabagere (12.5 km). The project is estimated to cost Rs 15,611 crore.
