Bengaluru Namma Metro Update: Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has cancelled the additional services it had planned to offer on May 23 due to a scheduled IPL match. A match of the Indian Premier League between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), which was originally planned to take place in Bengaluru, has been officially relocated to Lucknow due to unfavourable weather in Bengaluru.
The IPL match that was supposed to happen at Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy Stadium has been shifted to Lucknow's Ekana Stadium due to heavy rain warnings. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) relocated the match due to potential public safety logistical issues. The Indian Meteorological Department had issued a yellow alert for heavy to very heavy rain until Thursday.
Initially, the metro authority had planned to run trains until 1:30 am on May 23 to accommodate the large crowd expected for the match; however, with the match now taking place in Lucknow, the metro services on both the Purple and Green Lines will follow their standard schedules without any late-night extensions.
As BCCI announced the change in the venue of the IPL match, the BMRCL also decided to roll back the supposed services. BMRCL issued a press release on Tuesday announcing the cancellation of its extended metro services.
“Trains will operate as per normal timings on May 23, and the special services earlier announced have been cancelled,” BMRCL stated, as it requested media outlets to inform commuters and the general public.
On the other hand, the construction of the much-awaited Bengaluru Namma Metro's Red Line, connecting Hebbal with Sarjapura, is ongoing, and the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) assured that the work is likely to be finished within the deadline.
