Bengaluru Metro Yellow Line: Bengaluru Metro Yellow Line commuters will have to wait a little longer for improved train frequency and speed. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has stated that trains running every 12 minutes during peak hours is expected only by the end of the year.
With only four trains in service, the 19-kilometre Yellow Line currently sees trains arriving every 19 minutes. When the line was inaugurated in August with three trains, commuters faced even longer gaps with wait times stretching up to 19 minutes.
Trains To Run Every 12 Minutes By Year-End: BMRCL
- According to a Times of India report, BMRCL is gearing up to reduce train frequency to every 12 minutes.
- Work is currently underway, and a fifth train has arrived at the Hebbagodi depot. The train is undergoing static testing and is expected to come into service in early November.
- Dynamic checks, including checks on traction, braking, and signalling, were scheduled to begin on October 17, TOI quoted an official as saying.
- Following this, the train will complete 750 km of mainline trial runs, after which it will be operational for passengers.
- Once operational, the fifth train is expected to bring down wait times to approximately every 12 minutes.
- Meanwhile, the sixth train is in production, with bogies shipped from China.
- BMRCL expects this train to arrive and be added to the system by December, enabling train frequency to improve to every 12 minutes.
Currently, BMRCL do not have a standby train, which increases the risk of service disruptions. Earlier on Sunday, October 12, a technical fault forced one train out of service, leading to a 20-minute delay. According to BMRCL officials, the situation is expected to improve with the arrival of the seventh train, which will serve as a dedicated backup.
