An 11-year-old boy from Bengaluru shared a social media post alleging that Parappana Agrahara police tortured him to force a confession in a case involving the theft of 120 grams of gold from a neighbour, prompting the Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights to seek a report on the matter.
As per a Times of India report, the minor was allegedly taken into custody after a woman accused him of stealing her gold chain in August 2025. She claimed that while getting ready to travel to her hometown Krishnagiri in Tamil Nadu, she had packed her belongings and requested the boy, who was seated outside his house, to watch over her luggage while she went to arrange an autorickshaw. When she later returned, a purse containing gold jewellery weighing around 120 grams was found missing.
Incident After Woman Filed Complaint
About a week later, the woman contacted the boy’s father and informed him about the missing gold, asking him to question his son. The boy reportedly denied the allegation. After she returned to Bengaluru towards the end of August, the woman again met the boy’s father, who reiterated that his son had no role in the incident. Last week, she approached the Parappana Agrahara police for help in locating the missing ornaments but chose not to register a formal complaint.
What Police Said?
DCP (Electronics City) M Narayana stated that the boy and his parents were called to the police station on both Wednesday and Thursday. "The boy was questioned by a child protection officer, a woman police officer. On both days, he pleaded innocence. We informed the complainant about this and the matter ended there," Narayana said.
However, the boy’s parents later shared videos on social media alleging that police officials took the child into a room, flicked the lights on and off to scare him, assaulted him, and coerced him into admitting the theft. In one of the videos, the boy alleged that police threatened to jail his parents for three years if he did not confess.
Rejecting these claims, Narayana said an internal probe has been initiated. "No FIR has been registered as the woman has not filed a complaint. The parents and the boy were questioned casually. We have not harassed anyone," he said.
