Bengaluru Namma Metro Update: A Bengaluru metro commuter expressed frustration over the extra charge on oversized luggage that he was carrying while travelling. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the commuter stated that he was asked to pay Rs 30 for carrying the luggage, further asking whether the charge was justified. The post received mixed reactions from the social media users; while some of the netizens slammed the policy, others pointed out that the commuters should not question every policy. The post erupted a new debate a few months after the commuters slammed the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) for increasing the ticket price for metro rides.

“I am absolutely stunned that I had to pay Rs 30 in the Bangalore metro for this bag. The Bangalore metro is already the most expensive in the country, and this just adds to the burden. This is just another example of how the @OfficialBMRCL is excluding people from accessing the metro,” Avinash Chanchal stated in his post.

The post went viral within a few hours by getting more than a thousand likes and 150 comments. While several social media users questioned the policy, others pointed out that the charge is for oversized luggage and not for regular luggage.

"It is actually a good thing. Prevents people from carrying big items on the metro which is just a people carrier. At best a trolley bag should be permissible on the Metro," the other one countered. The BMRCL stated that the extra charges are being applied to carry out the construction and expansion works.
