Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has put advertisements inside and outside the Namma metro trains to compensate for the loss due to the fall in ridership. Earlier last month, the authority had announced that there was a dip in ridership after the ticket price hike was implemented. While the BMRCL stated that the ridership is likely to improve in the upcoming months, it is also considering other methods to boost the revenue. The metro authority also stated that the price of metro tickets was increased to generate more revenue to maintain and expand the metro services in Bengaluru.
While providing details, Chief Public Relations Officer Yashwant Chauhan stated that 57 trains have been allowed to install the advertisements to boost the revenue, reported the Hans India. He further stated that while the advertisements have been put on the 33 trains on the Purple Line, 24 trains on the Green Line have also got the approval to put the advertisements on.

Chauhan further stated that a contract worth Rs 25 crore has been given to put advertisements on these trains for the next 7 years. Apart from this, the BMRCL has also signed a contract with Mudra Ventures and Lokesh Outdoor stating that the charges for the advertisement will increase by 5 per cent every year. The authority also clarified that the firms have been allowed only to put the advertisements related to the social concerns.
However, the commuters have expressed their frustration over the authority's decision by stating that the Namma Metro has lost its beauty due to the advertisements. “Why haven’t platform screen doors been installed at every station for passenger safety? And why are so many stations still lacking escalators?” one of the commuters asked in a post on X.
