BMRCL Metro Expansion: Bengaluru Namma Metro network will be expanded to 175 km by December 2027, informed Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar. New metro lines, elevated double-decker corridors, and extensions into outskirts shall be included under this expansion.

DK Shivakumar further added that Bengaluru had metro lines spanning a total of 96 kilometres. The expansion of Bengaluru Namma Metro will improve connectivity towards Nelamangala, Magadi, Tavarakere, Hosakote and Bidadi.

"By December 2026, 41 kilometres of lines will be added. By December 2027, another 38 kilometres will be commissioned, including the metro line connecting the Bengaluru international airport. With this, a 175 kilometre long route will be operational in Bengaluru," DK Shivakumar told reporters on Monday, as quoted by a Hindustan Times report.

In another update, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is reportedly planning to boost the metro services by significantly improving the frequency. The authority is set to operate trains at a four-minute frequency on all the corridors in the next two years. The officials stated that the improved frequency will also boost the ridership and will provide convenience to the commuters by cutting the travel time.

The state-owned BEML announced that it has received a contract from the metro authority for supplying extra trains on all the metro routes. The authority also stated that the improved frequency will also reduce the crowd at the key metro stations.

While providing details, the officials stated that 10-12 trainsets will be provided to the Yellow Line once the corridor is extended to Attibele. They further stated that the trains on the Yellow line will operate at the frequency of 12 minutes after the introduction of the sixth trainset, adding that more trains will be added in the upcoming months. Apart from this, the officials also stated that the additional trains will also improve the services on the Pink Line.
