Namma Metro Update: The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has stated that the metro network will be significantly expanded in the upcoming two years. The officials stated that the metro network will be expanded from 96 kilometers to 175 kilometers by the end of 2027. The expansion of metro services will boost the regional connectivity and will provide convenience to thousands of commuters by cutting the travel time and reducing the traffic congestion. The officials stated that some of the key regions will be connected to the metro services, adding that it will also improve the financial activities in the region.
Namma Metro Expansion Plans
The BMRCL stated that while 41 kilometers of new metro lines is likely to become operational by the end of 2026, another 38 kilometers will be ready by December 2027. The authority further stated that the expansion works will improve the connectivity in several regions, including Tavarekere, Hosakote, Bidadi, and Nelamangala. Apart from this, the first stretch between Central Silk Board and KR Pura is likely to open by December 2026. This 19-km route is expected to support large numbers of commuters who travel daily between Southeast Bengaluru and the Outer Ring Road technology zones.
The authority further stated that the operation of the Yellow Line has significantly reduced the traffic congestion in multiple regions, adding that the Blue Line will also provide relief to thousands of commuters. The Blue Line covers a total length of 58 km and has an estimated cost of Rs 15,000 crore. The project includes elevated tracks, underground sections, and supporting depot facilities, making it one of Bengaluru’s largest metro undertakings.
The state-owned BEML announced that it has received a contract from the metro authority for supplying extra trains on all the metro routes.
