Bengaluru Metro: The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has revised the timeline for the much-anticipated Namma Metro Pink Line. The 21.25-kilometre corridor, which is under construction, is now planned to be opened in phases. The first phase is expected to be ready by December 2025, while the complete line will likely become operational by the end of 2026.
Bengaluru Metro Pink Line: Phase 1 To Cover 13.92 km With 12 Key Stations
The Pink Line, which connects Kalena Agrahara (Gottigere) to Nagawara, is being developed in two stages. Phase 1 includes both underground and elevated sections covering about 13.92 km with twelve stations including six underground and six elevated. BMRCL aims to open this portion first to ease traffic congestion in key areas of the city.
Namma Metro Pink Line To Boost Connectivity Between North And South Bengaluru
Once fully completed, the Pink Line is expected to boost connectivity between the southern and northern parts of Bengaluru. The line passes through busy locations including Jayadeva Hospital, Mahatma Gandhi Road, Shivaji Nagar and Cantonment.
Kalena Agrahara-Tavarekere Stretch Under Active Construction
According to a Times Now report, construction work is progressing steadily on the Kalena Agrahara to Tavarekere stretch, which includes major stations like Tavarekere, Jayadeva Interchange, JP Nagar 4th Phase, IIMB, Hulimavu and Kalena Agrahara.
Namma Metro: Tunnelling Work Update
As per February 2025 reports, 93.13 per cent of tunnelling work on the Pink Line had already been completed. Track-laying and systems installation were underway, with commercial operations targeted for late 2026. The underground section covers 13.89 km with 12 stations, while the elevated part stretches across 7.37 km with six stations.
MG Road Station To Serve as Major Interchange
The MG Road station, built around 65 feet below ground, is designed as an interchange between the Pink and Purple Lines. Covering nearly 93,775 square feet, it will have four entry points, unlike other stations which will have two.

TBMs Faced Geological Challenges During Tunnel Work
Nine Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) were used to complete 20.99 km of twin tunnels between August 2020 and October 2024. BMRCL engineers highlighted challenges such as encountering hard granite and dolerite rocks during tunnelling. In some sections, over 190 interventions were required to manage ground conditions.
In a first for Bengaluru, underground stations on the Pink Line will feature platform screen doors. Trains on the line are expected to run at speeds up to 80 kmph.
