Bengaluru's Namma Metro has planned to develop an 11-story parking facility near KR Puram Station, a key interchange station that connects Purple and Blue Lines.

The initiative will come up as part of an integrated property development project to raise the non-fare revenue, the Deccan Herald reported.

As per the report, the 11-story parking with a ground floor and two basements will be built about 50 meters from the KR Metro Station.

Raghavendra Rao, Deputy Chief Engineer (Property Development Division), BMRCL said, "The project will be developed through a public-private partnership (PPP) for 30 years."

The reports suggest that the parking space will be provided in two basements while the upper floors could be used for commercial purposes, such as office spaces, shopping malls, and retail shops among others. According to Rao, the BMRCL is expecting to earn Rs 10 crore as non-refundable upfront through the project along with a minimum of Rs 2 crore in annual licence fees.

It must be noted that Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has a 1.66-acre (6,730-square metre) land parcel near the junction of Old Madras Road and the Outer Ring Road in the city's east.

The project is expected to be ready soon after the Blue Line (Silk Board-KR Puram-Airport) opens in 2027.

After completion, the KR Puram parking facility will be the second-largest in Namma Metro. As of now, Majestic and KR Pura metro stations have parking spaces. While Majestic has 1,500 square metres of space which could accommodate 260 two-wheelers and 36 cars, while KR Pura has 1,750 square metres of space which could accommodate 530 two-wheelers.

The project is a significant move to augment non-fare earnings amid the recent backlash over the fare-hike in the services.
