A man died after he jumped in front of a moving Namma Metro train on the Purple Line while it was approaching the Kengari Station, bringing the services to a complete halt.
Soon after the incident, the Kengeri police arrived at the scene and started the identification of the deceased. Authorities confirmed that an investigation is underway to find the reason behind the extreme step by the deceased.
In a post on X, Namma Metro announced that services between Mysuru Road and Challaghatta were suspended because of the incident. It added that normal operations would resume after clearance and safety checks.
In a separate post, Namma Metro officials expressed regret over the inconvenience caused to passengers, adding that service will be restored and further updates will be shared after that. "Will update once services are restored. Inconvenience regretted," BMRCL said.
The incident took place at around 8.15 am. The alert security personnel immediately cut off the power supply to the third rail, but the man was found trapped between the track and the train.
The service suspension came during peak hours and hence has caused significant disruption, leaving thousands stranded. As the passengers' footfall was rising, the halt of movement left hundreds waiting at the station entrance for more than an hour.
Later, they were informed by the metro staff that the services would remain suspended. The Kengeri police rushed to the spot with a special team and removed the body from the tracks. The body was shifted to Rajarajeshwari Medical College Hospital for post-mortem.

Most affected due to suspension are office-bound commuters from Kengeri, RR Nagar, Rajarajeshwari Nagar, Vijayanagar and other parts of West Bengaluru.
They were forced to rely on BMTC buses, which caused overcrowding in buses across multiple routes. The traffic movement on the Mysuru road was also affected due to the incident.
