Namma Metro Update: The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) has reportedly floated a tender for the preparation of a detailed project report (DPR) for the extension of the Namma Metro services to Tumakuru. The metro authority stated that the extension of the Green Line will severely benefit the commuters by cutting the travel time and reducing traffic congestion. While currently the Green Line operates between Madavara and Silk Institute, the 59.6-km-long corridor will extend the services to Tumakuru. Apart from providing relief to the commuters, the extended services are also set to boost the financial activities.

Earlier in May, the state government had approved the feasibility report for the corridor under a public-private partnership (PPP) model. The BMRCL officials informed that the metro route will become Karnataka's first intercity metro project, adding that it will significantly boost the regional connectivity. The estimated cost for the project is Rs 18,670 crore and the authority will get the funds from both the central and state governments.

The authority has set the deadline of November 20 for the interested parties to submit their bids for the project, and the DPR preparation will take at least four months after selection of the bidder, reported the Times of India. While providing details, the officials stated that a committee will sort out several things, including financial criteria and technical eligibility.

"After the bidding process is over, they have to scrutinise the bids. Along with that, technical eligibility, financial criteria and a lot of other things need to be sorted out by a committee under the civil header. Hence, we can't give a date as of now; it will take at least 5-6 months," an official was quoted as saying by the TOI.
