Bengaluru Namma Metro Update: The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) on Sunday stated that the Namma Metro ridership slightly fell in May in comparison to the earlier months of 2025. The authority further informed that 7.56 lakh passengers used the metro services on a daily basis on an average. While providing details, the BMRCL stated that a total of 2,34,57,821 commuters travelled on metro trains in May, adding that the highest ridership was recorded on May 19 with 8,39,924 passengers using the metro services.
The authority stated that the ridership slightly fell in May as 7.62 lakh passengers had used the metro services in Bengaluru in April. There has been a regular decline in the number of passengers after the BMRCL increased the metro fare in February. The passengers had opposed the proposed rates by stating that the hike would make the rides significantly costly; however, the authority stated that the hike was introduced to carry out the expansion projects and maintenance works.
While the average daily ridership was recorded at 8.03 lakh in January this year, it fell down to 7.49 lakh in February and 7.24 lakh in March. However, the BMRCL emphasised that the situation is likely to improve in the upcoming months, adding that the ridership in June is likely to surpass the January figure. “Our ridership is now well over 8 lakh on most days,” one of the BMRCL official was quoted as saying by the Deccan Herald.
Earlier on June 13, the netizens had slammed BMRCL for putting advertisements inside and outside the Namma metro trains to compensate for the loss due to the fall in ridership. The authority had clarified that new methods are being explored to boost the revenue to carry out the expansion works.
