The much-awaited yellow line of Bengaluru Namma Metro has moved closer to operation as the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has finally received the safety clearance from the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) for the stretch. With this development, the city moves closer to witnessing the operation of the 19.15-kilometre-long Yellow line corridor of the Namma metro network, connecting RV Road in the south to Bommasandra in the southeast.

The safety certification was one of the biggest hurdles on the way to the yellow line, and authorities were aspiring to receive one for a long time, as the nod from CMRS is a prerequisite for the metro line operation in the country.

BMRCL’s chief public relations officer, Yashwanth Chavan, said the CMRS has given a safety nod after a detailed inspection, making it possible to start passenger service on the new section.

During the safety review that was completed in three days, several aspects of the stretch were inspected to ensure that the newly constructed section was ready and safe for operation. Power grid, tracks, signalling, curves, emergency response, fire prevention, passenger information displays, and amenities at each station were inspected.

Although it is anticipated that the stretch will be operational by August 15, the opening date is still undecided.

In the initial phase, the three driverless trains are expected to run at a 20-minute interval. BMRCL plans to ramp up the schedule to provide five-minute headways during peak hours by March 2026.
