Bengaluru Metro: The long-awaited Yellow Line of Bengaluru’s Namma Metro has moved one step closer to becoming operational. On Tuesday night, the third set of six-coach trains arrived at Hebbagodi depot, located near Electronics City. These coaches were unloaded and will be assembled for testing from Wednesday.

The Money control report cited a senior official from the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) as confirming that the train formation is under way and testing will begin immediately. Two more sets are expected by the end of July or early August. BMRCL had earlier received two sets of trains and has been conducting trial runs since March this year.

The six-coach train that arrived this week was shipped from Titagarh’s factory in Uttarpara, West Bengal, on April 30, according to a BMRCL source cited by Money Control report. The metro agency plans to start Yellow Line operations with three trains. Officials added that all required documents have been submitted to the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) and that inspection is likely to take place soon.

Construction of the 18.82-km Yellow Line began in 2017 and stretches from Rashtreeya Vidyalaya Road (RV Road) to Bommasandra. This corridor is expected to benefit thousands of daily commuters, particularly those travelling to Electronics City, which houses major firms like Infosys and Biocon.

Initially, metro services will run every 30 minutes with limited stops at major stations including RV Road, Jayadeva Hospital, Central Silk Board, Infosys and Bommasandra. Regular services with stops at all stations will be launched once additional trains are deployed.

In total, BMRCL plans to introduce 90 coaches (15 six-coach trains) on this corridor. By September 2025, Titagarh Rail Systems aims to increase its delivery rate to two trains per month.

The first driverless trainset was rolled out on January 6, 2025, while the prototype train from China reached Bengaluru on February 14. In February, the CMRS (South Circle) chief also inspected two trains—one imported from China and one assembled in India.
