Bengaluru Traffic Advisory: The Bengaluru Traffic Police have announced a comprehensive traffic and security plan ahead of New Year celebrations, with the aim of preventing overcrowding and ensuring public safety across the city. Restrictions, diversions and strict enforcement will be in place from the night of December 31 till the early hours of January 1.

Bengaluru New Year 2026: Heavy Police Deployment And Monitoring

Police officials said 166 check posts have been set up across Bengaluru, while 50 major flyovers will remain closed for traffic from 11 PM on December 31 to 6 AM on January 1. In a video message, Joint Commissioner of Police Karthik Reddy said teams are closely monitoring busy streets, pubs, malls and public events, where large gatherings are expected.

Around 20,000 personnel, including traffic police, civil police, Karnataka Special Reserve Police, home guards, civil defence volunteers, Hoysala patrols, Cobra teams and C-SWAT units, will be deployed across the city.

Bengaluru Traffic Rules: Strict Action On Violations

The police warned of zero tolerance towards violations such as drunk driving, overspeeding, stunt biking, zig-zag driving and reckless driving. Drunk driving can attract penalties under the Motor Vehicles Act, including heavy fines and legal action.

Commuters have been advised to use public transport and avoid unnecessary travel in central business districts.

Bengaluru Traffic: Flyover And Airport Route Rules

  • All flyovers across Bengaluru will be closed from 11 PM to 6 AM

  • The airport flyover will remain open, but two-wheelers will be restricted from 10 PM to 6 AM

  • Vehicles heading to the airport are advised to plan travel early
