At least 500 residents of an 830-apartment residential complex in Bengaluru have been infected with a mysterious illness reportedly because of contaminated water. Several of the young children and senior citizens have been complaining of issues including vomiting, fever, and stomach cramps in the Kaggalipura area on Kanakapura Road. The residents confirmed that the illness has spread among the 262 families, adding that the apartment uses water from its own borewell.
The local doctors could not reveal the exact reason behind the illness but said that the patients might be suffering from gastroenteritis. The doctors could not reveal the exact reason, as different labs have given different responses to the water samples that were collected from the apartment, the New Indian Express reported. A resident of the apartment said that some serious health problem is going on in the area, but the residents were in the dark about it.

“It all began on Sunday night, when my elderly father, wife, kids,ne is clear about what is going on. and I fell ill. No one is clear about what is going on. My wife could not go to work and my kids had to stay back at home. Since I work from home, I started working today. Some serious health problem is going on but we are all in the dark about it,” the resident was quoted as saying by the New Indian Express.
Another resident informed that while one of the private labs ruled out the possibilities of contamination, another lab suggested that the water had the presence of Coliform bacteria (fecal contamination) and E.Coli (contamination from human or animal waste). However, he added that the government lab revealed that five out of the six tanks were fine. One of the tanks had elements of E.coli and emphasised that water supply from that tank was stopped completely, and it was later cleaned thoroughly.
